Bishop’s task is to ensure the federation is set up for the demands of its members’ agenda, especially with regard to promoting creative careers and shaping Brexit to the needs of the creative sector. He will also find the right chief executive for the longer term.

The Federation’s membership spans industries such as advertising, architecture, heritage, video games, performance and publlishing.

Kampfner, who helped set up the Federation in 2014, will assist Bishop in a transition period over the next four months.

Bishop is also known in the ad industry as the chief executive between 2003 and 2008 of the now-defunct Central Office of Information, which managed the government’s various public awareness initiatives before being wound up into the Cabinet Office.

He went on to become chief executive of the arts organisation Southbank Centre, when it was chaired by current Creative Industries Federation chair Rick Haythornthwaite.

Kampfner said: “More than four years after I helped to establish the Creative Industries Federation, it is time for the organisation to have a new leader. I am proud that this amazing sector now has a representative body that has given it a political heft and cohesion never achieved before. I am pleased that the Board has asked Alan Bishop to succeed me.”
